Dust Storm
I just experienced my first Texas dust storm. I’d heard about them several years ago, and saw one on the horizon (about 20 miles distant,) once, but this is the first I’ve been here for. It was an interesting sight, a bit gross, but also eerily beautiful. It seemed as if we’d been transported to another planet.

There was no moisture whatsoever, which I guess is obvious… lots of wind. Continuous at about 30mph, gusting over 50mph. I imagine it kicked up the dust quite a distance west of us and just kept bringing it along. It lasted about an hour. The lighting was eerie. Not only was everything painted brown and orange with the dust in the air, but the same dust was filtering that spectrum from the sun, so the sunlight that made it through was very cool, cyan to blue. Whites looked whiter, everyone’s paintjob on their car looked different.
