Tele-marketers
If you’ve ever worked as a tele-marketer, what is wrong with you?
I just got a call, recorded, to my office number. I don’t give the number out to anyone except business colleagues. It has been registered on the national and texas do not call lists since I first purchased the number. Besides that, pre-recorded tele-marketing calls are illegal in most states unless you’ve previously signed up to allow them.
Anyway, this company was especially dumb, they gave me a domain name to go to, and it’s got a public registration with their company name and contact info. Geez, you’d think if you’re going to do something so rude you’d at least try to hide a little bit. Anyway, the company in question is “Treasure chest” and the domain is Gold44.net. Don’t go there, they don’t deserve the hits. But since I got some nice contact info I’m going to make that even more public.

Subject: Received recorded telemarketing call from youGreetings,
On 12.14.06 at 9:38 AM I received a pre-recorded telemarketing message advertising gold44.com. The number your system dialed from was: +1 310 728 6942.
The number you dialed has been registered on the national do not call list since May of 2006. I am reporting you to the national do not call registry as well as the state of texas telecommunications board.
In addition I am an internet service provider and will block any incoming or outgoing traffic from your domain name from all of my customers, as well as publish you on a blacklist of known invasive marketers.
I hope you will think twice before continuing your invasive, and vile marketing practices.
P.S. Go to hell.
Well, I kept it professional up till that last bit at least.
Update @ 11 AM: Now they’re cursing at me via email. Being a nice guy, I gave them an opportunity to fix the problem, we’ll see if I hear anything more from them.

Update @ 11:30 AM: Wow, just beautiful. Got a response from them. Not only do they freely admit what they did was illegal, they don’t care! Their words, not mine:

To: webmaster@makesitgood.netI await your rath !!
I wish you would pursue a case in court. It is a civil fine not criminal and all of my finances are protected and sheltered. I own NOTHING !! You are right it is not worth your time.
Next time, make an empty threat to someone who you can control.
GOOD LUCK
So the fact that it’s only a civil suit ($500 per transgression in the TCPA,) is no big deal because they’re incorporated and only the company would be losing money… not the individual? Hmm I think they missed the point.
It’s also interesting to note I never threatened a thing. I simply reported them violating the donotcall list, sent some bits of info along to other organizations, and blocked some traffic as I said I would. I didn’t give conditions, actually I told them after the fact. Also I didn’t threaten to sue, just said I legally could and would likely win.

DO IT! DO IT!
GET THE INTERNET BEHiND YOU AND GET THEIR BUTTS.
It may only be a fine to call, but to harass after being warned, I do believe that’s slander and CAN get him in trouble.

I’d be happy with a fine, but not knowing the likely hood of that I’m happy to spread the word, their company name, and email/phones all around the net for others to see.
Hopefully I can get this picked up elsewhere.

I’m still just giggling over the fact they actually said, “I await your RATH.” haha. I would have given them points for turn of phrase, but they’re obviously idiots as well as jerks.

Well, they’re at it again. Or maybe they’re just starting to hit Illinois. They called me..or the automated system rather, and gave me the “Real estate downturn pitch, so we’ll make you rich”. I’m a Realtor, and yes, the real estate market is bad right now…unless you can get in a niche. If you can, the sky’s the limit. Nice blog by the way…
Carry on!
