Curry, Fish & Chips, Water?

London has an obsession with Mineral water.  We’ve decided that this is very similar to the US obsession with bottled water, except London has better marketing. See we advertise the purity of our water, London advertises the benefits of the minerals in the water.  In the end we’re both selling the same thing, tap water.

No complaints though, the tap water is quite good!

We found an nice Indian restaurant tonight, barely a stone’s throw from our hotel.  I went and spent 64 pound on dinner, which is equivalen to $ALOT.  But that’s ok, because it really wasn’t an unfair price for the area, and it is vacation, and I’m eating all my meals free tomorow, and tea and lunch are free the following day.

I’ll just keep telling myself that.

But seriously, it was nothing unplanned so it’s ok.  Last night we found a seafood place and I had some great fish and chips.  I don’t know how many told me how bad the food was in England, You all are daft.  Traditional english food may be rubbish but honestly aside from a few sidedishes, I haven’t even seen anywhere where you can order it! Maybe it’s just that we’re in a pretty Posh part of town.  We can walk to May Fair, which has a Bentley, Mercedes, Porsche, and Aston Martin dealership all within view of each other.

Here’s the Tower Bridge in the London Fog.  Apparently it’s actually classified as a ship according to Lloyds of London.

Here’s the girls with the owner of that seafood restaurant.  He looks happy.

I think you’ll find that most bottled water in the US is ‘purified’, and most in the UK is from a spring in the mountains of Scotland or Wales. When coke released Dasani a few years ago, they didn’t do their homework about the UK’s water-market and had a huge PR disaster. (Dasani = Water from the Thames) One thing I do like though, is that it is much easier (and cheaper) to find sparkling water in the UK. I drink it instead of coke here, and there is only one place I can buy it in 2L form. In the UK, I could get it for 19p at Tesco.

Regarding food, it sounds like you’re eating pretty posh. No one ever said you can’t find a good meal in London, you’ll just have to pay for it. Many would argue that London has the best Indian cuisine in the world. Also, because Britian is an Island, they have pretty good sea-food. I think the food has improved a lot in the last 10 years (much of it coming from Europe) … but you’ll still find beans on toast, bangers and mash, and toad in a hole.
