More dirty business from Cingular
We got a letter today from Asurion, an insurance provider for cell phones. It informed us that our coverage on our phones was going to go up from $3.99 to $4.99 a month.
We don’t have insurance on our phones. We have the cheapest phones Cingular offers (that still manage to not break after a week’s use, yeah there’s several of those.)
Lovely, we log on to check our bill @ Cingular. That website is horrible by the way, hard to navigate, too dense, and it rarely actually WORKS. Anyway, after navigating that guantlet sure enough there’s a $3.99/month fee tacked onto our bill. Oh… and there’s also a $2.99/month fee for roadside assistance! Now I remember them offering these to us when we transfered our numbers to the Dallas area, and I remember rejecting them. What’s more, when I called them up to bitch about them raising our rates without any reason they offered them again, and I rejected them again. This was in May.
So, I skype them up. This really confuses their automated system as a skype number doesn’t even appear like a US number. I have fun with that, I think it actually lets me get through a little bit quicker because they’re not sure it’s just a normal customer they can ignore.
After about 20 minutes going through various people I got to someone who actually had the power to do something. I explained the problem, and asked how those got on there when I specifically rejected them twice. His words were: “Oh they put them on there pretty often as a promotion, they’re free for the first month or so, and don’t show up on the bill.” Great, except I didn’t want them, even for free. Obviously this is specifically designed for people that don’t pay attention to their bill (most people, even us sometimes!) just so they steal a little extra from you when you’re not paying attention.
While I was on the phone with them I was filling out the complaint form at the texas BBB. I told them this. It didn’t seem to phase them. They did “correct” it… we’ll see come next bill if it’s actually corrected or not.
Now what I want is a good internal mailing address I can send an invoice to for my wasted time. I bill out at about $185/hour, so I think they owe me a few hundred bucks for all this crap I’ve had to gone through to get my bill back to what it originally (and contractually!) was.
Assholes.
