Intellectual morons

I got accused of being an “Altruist Apologist.” If we’ve ever got to talking philosophy or politics you’ll know immediately how hilarious that is. Well, maybe not hilarious unless you’ve got a penchant for irony. Altruism is selflessness, and I’m one of the most selfish people I know. I only bring this up because I am seeing more and more of it. The internet has given rise to an explosive level of communication. This has benefits and detriments. People will take a concept and throw it about without ever looking at the underlying meanings, or effects of it. If they come off sounding clever enough, it will spread and people will take it at face value without ever understanding the original concept themselves.

The morality of altruism has allowed the rise of an “aristocracy of non-value” that currently plagues the USA. Groups claim privileges for disability, poverty, misfortune, incompetence; we award people for a lack instead of for achievement. This allows groups to demand special treatment at the expense of achievers. I believe this is the first domino that led to the level of depravity we currently enjoy. Under the guise of fostering equality, we have in effect sedated ambition and excellence. Through complacency and compassion we allow positive reinforcement of ineptitude and failure.

I find I have more and more trouble with the english language. It seems the information age has caused more rapid shifts in meanings of words and concepts. Allow me to explain: Choosing to spend your time and effort on behalf of something or someone you value is not altruistic, it is actually selfish. The view that those less fortunate than yourself deserve more than you simply because of their lack is a 0 or even negative based system. This is the traditional altruism morals, and it is doomed to collapse.

It seems our current path has the goal of creating a lowest common denominator society, destroying the best of men and rewarding the worst. How have we gotten this far? I’m not sure. I think it’s because of a few pretty sounding misconceptions, and the failure to question. In reality all men are not created equal, but we can give them equal freedom. In reality life will never be fair, but we can help facilitate justice.
