Enjoying Vacation

Here I am in Dallas. It’s kinda chilly here, but there’s a fireplace where we’re staying. When we arrived it was about 25 F, but it’s warmed up into the 40’s so it’s not really painful.

Somehow we seemed to have completely avoided all the travel trouble that is going around. dropped us off at the airport and we were freaking because there was this huge line wrapping out around the terminal. Turns out that was for U.S. Airways. We were traveling AirTran. There was no line at all. From when we were dropped off to the time we got to the gate about 15 minutes passed. That’s checking bags, going through security, and walking to the gate. Not bad.

Being out here is a nice change of pace. Not just the whole being lazy on vacation thing, but the people that live out in Dallas are nice. That’s not true of the entire population, but on the Worthless Assholes Per Capita TM scale Dallas scores low. It might just be a comparison thing, because Florida is off the charts. I don’t know, maybe it’s just perspective. I find it really nice going to a grocery and seeing people smile, not push each other out of the way to get some eggs, not hear people screaming spanish at each other (or to their cellphones.)* There’s bluehaired bad drivers out here too, but at least they aren’t flipping you off as they cut you off.

South Florida is filled with the rude and irresponsible. The accidentally rich and those that want to feed off of them. Oh, and a small percentage of genuinely good people. I’ve always wondered what causes that sort of population. Density? Stagnation? Bad breeding? Who knows? Dallas is one of the few genuine metropolises I’ve seen escape it, or at least shed off most of it.

* Footnote: Spanish is not spoken in public in south florida, only screamed.
