I voted for Bush, and I’m proud of it.

Yesterday, I, along with about 58 million other citizens of the USA voted President George W. Bush in for a second term. The reasons each of us did this vary greatly. Some did it for what I feel are the wrong reasons. Some did it for the same reasons I did. Some did it because other people told them to. Whatever the reason, it’s been done. Bush has won the electoral, as well as the popular vote. John Kerry was a true man and conceded defeat gracefully, and with a short speech to encourage ALL citizens to support the President, and each other. Up until that moment I had very little respect for John Kerry, but I now have a healthy chunk of it for him.

Some of his constituents don’t agree with his concession, or his plea for unity. There is a lot of bitching and moaning. It ranges from honest apprehension over the next four years to complete drivel. Unfortunately I’ve been seeing more of the drivel end. I often point out things in discussions, forums, etc. about Kerry that his staunchest supporters are ignorant of. This makes me sad. That’s not to say Kerry supporters are all misguided or ignorant, far from it. I know a handful that I very much respect (, , this means you.) I wish all liberals/democrats were as reasonable and willing to talk as they were. More often when I’m discussing politics I’m met with name calling, other personal attacks, or even violence.

It’s only been a day, but I’m already tired of hearing the “I’m moving to Canada,” “We’re doomed!” “Hell on earth…” etc. etc. I honestly wonder how many of those people have been to Canada. Canada isn’t a clone of the US. Taxes are much higher on the middle class. Healthcare, though free, is MUCH worse. Canada is COLD! I’m not saying it’s a horrible place, it’s just not the US. It’s a rather comfortable place to live… but that’s primarily due to it enjoying a close relationship WITH the US. No where else is. There has never been a country with the level of prosperity that the US now enjoys. The Roman Empire came close in its golden age… but just for the upper classes. There are a few countries that currently exist that show the promise of being akin to the united states in prosperity. South Africa is the most exciting of the lot. I think most of the “fleeing” liberals don’t realize that the potential available to them in another country requires a lot more work than they’ve ever done in their lives. I’m stereotyping, I know. Bad me, but the facts is there is no where on earth where you can have the amount of freedom, convenience, and luxury that you do in the United States for the amount of effort you exert.

This country has it’s problems–a lion’s share some may say–but what’s new? Even if Kerry–who I opposed strongly–won; I’d rather contribute my ideas, my votes, my effort, to solve them instead of running away. How about you?
