Tradewinds Park Sucks.
It’s pretty sad. The park has billboards. Yes, a park with billboards, but other than that they have next to nothing.
Maybe I’m expecting the wrong things. When I think park, I think wooded walking trails, maybe a pond or lake, picnic benches, grills sometimes, maybe a sports field. Tradewinds park does in fact have several sports fields, so it’s not a 100% waste of space. Other than that it has… grass… lots of it. It has some stables and “horse trails.” Which seem to be normal trails except too muddy for comfortable human passage. An “educational farm area.” Which is really nothing like a farm, it’s kind of like a zoo for common animals.
We came in to the north side asking “does this saide have walking trails?” The ticketer said after a moment of confused look, “yeah.” So we paid $2 admission and drove on. There were no walking trails. There was a “nature trail.” This consisted of a boardwalk about 150 yards in length through a short wooded area… which seems to have been broken and closed since 1985. That was the state of most of the park. Very much in disrepair, not labeled, not kept up. Most free parks I’ve seen are in much better shape.
We drive around a bit more, to the other side of the park. Soccer fields, batting cages, a lot of trashcans and parking. Then there’s butterfly world. That costs more. We left.
Why would I want to walk around in a grassy field? So yeah… unless you need a soccer field, or batting cage, don’t go.
