Metroidlicious
Well I haven’t updated this in a while. I blame Metroid Zero Mission (Thanks
One thing I didn’t like. After beating mother brain, there’s the standard metroid self destruct… you’ve got to get out FAST! In the original this was mean enough.. you just beat the last boss and think you can relax, but no.. you have to escape.. with a TIME LIMIT! AAHHHHG. Well I was expecting it this time… so I run out the door and start hopping my way to freedom. But uh… crap.. the steps are dissolving under my feet! WHAT?! Ok that’s NOT an enhancement. Take one of the most stressful parts of the game.. and make it MORE stressful. Not only are you jumping up a long vertical passageway onto tiny blocks that can barely hold you, now they vanish if you stay on them as well! So I had to do that bit 3 times before I got up to the top. That means I had to beat mother brain 3 times to even get to that point.. grrr.
All in all, it was a great game. The original premise was you were going to beat the metroids and the space pirates who were breeding them.. but you never saw any space pirates. You did in the 3rd game, as well as metroid prime. Thankfully they were added in to this one as well. Usually I worry about remakes, of any kind, but I think they did this one right. The music was good, the graphics were excellent, the controls were precise.
It kind of bothers me that some of the best games made today are for GBA. I have 3 consoles… I would like games this good on my big screen, taking advantage of the wowie zowie graphic and sound technology we’ve invested in. Yeah, there are some that do this.. (metroid prime, zelda wind waker, eternal darkness, ffx, kingdom hearts.. ) but they’re few and far between. There’s plenty of highly polished graphics out there, but few are actually good GAMES. they’re mostly eye candy. Ah well, I guess that’s just how things go.
